Meal prep. Meal prep has been quite the craze the last few years. I mean we now live in a world where everyone either wants to be or has to be a clean eating, gluten-free, paleo dabbling, class pass fad hopping, Fitbit wearing, crossfitting, body building, gym mirror selfie posing, spending billions of dollars a year, meal prepping and social media updating everyone and their mother all about it, crazy bunch of health nuts!!! Did I miss anything? Shit, I hope not! But for others, it’s always just been a way of life. And I’m one of those people.
I’m old school. Or old. Depends on whom you ask. Either way, I come from the era of tatted up, protein shake drinking, steroid taking, “How much can you max out on the bench, bro?” Gen-X/Gen-Y/Millennial cusp of working out. Worlds collided for me in college and my cousin, my best bro and I started going to the gym. That was almost 20 years ago. Now? I still can’t stand people who jump on the latest health fad. But I do respect them for wanting to live healthier lives. As long as they stay committed to it. At my age, I no longer lift the heavy weights or drink 800 protein shakes a day. Oh fuck no. I work out 4-5 days a week that consists of mixing up weights, machines, cardio and dirty boxing. If I can get an hour to 75 minutes in and eat 5-6 times a day while drinking 2.5 gallons of water, I feel blessed up as the kids say today! And a big part of my routine is eating prepped meals. I still don’t cook. I’m still not married. I still don’t have kids. So basically, Monday through Friday I’m on my own for food with Saturday being date night with the ladies and Sunday being my cheat day. But I pay someone to make my meals. I’m lucky enough to be able to afford that. And I’ve been doing it for the last 3 years. Someone preps my meals with the right combination of carbs, fats and protein and I love it. I fucking love it. A good clean diet where the bulk of what your body needs coming from real food combined with water and a good night’s sleep as exactly what every grown adult 30+ should be getting with some physical activity 3-4 times a week. Forget all that other fad bullshit and supplements and unnatural garbage you want to put into your body. Prep clean meals. It isn’t a fad. It should be a way of life.
I was poor as shit as a kid and we didn’t eat healthy really. My mother kept fruit in the house but my diet was mostly take out. A ton of roast beef sandwiches and pasta. Even with all the protein shakes and gym time I know now that I didn’t know shit about proper nutrition back then compared to what I know now. Do yo’ meal prep people. And thank me later!
Until next time. Always take it there.
